Nitrogen Mustard (HN-2)

Eye and skin toxicity :toxic to eyes;blisters skin

Rate of action :delayed -skin-delayed 12 hours or more;eyes -faster than HD

Physiological Action :similar to HD;Bronchopneumonia possible after 24 hours
Protection required: protective suit, gloves & mask


Nitrogen Mustard (HN-3)
Eye and skin toxicity :eyes very susceptible;skin less so

Rate of action :serious effects same as for HD;minor effects sooner

Physiological Action :similar to HN-2
Protection required: protective suit, gloves & mask


Lewisite (L)
Eye and skin toxicity :1,500 mg min/m 3 severely damages eyes;skin less so

Rate of action :rapid

Physiological Action :similar to HD,plus may cause systemic poisoning
Protection required: protective suit, gloves & mask


Mustard-Lewisite Mixture (HL)

Eye and skin toxicity :very high

Rate of action :prompt stinging;blistering delayed about 13 hours

Physiological Action :similar to HD,plus may cause systemic poisoning
Protection required: protective suit, gloves & mask

Eye and skin toxicity :moderate

Physiological Action :interferes with body tissues'oxygen use;accelerates rate of
